Robot and battery lawn mowers worth buying in Australia

Quick answer: If you want the mowing done for you, buy a wire-free robot such as the Segway Navimow i206 AWD ($2,398 at Bunnings), or the Ecovacs Goat O600 RTK ($1,299) on a budget. If you are happy to push a mower once a week, a battery mower does it for a fraction of the price: the Ryobi 36V HP 46cm kit is $499 and the Ozito PXC 36V 410mm kit is $228.

Price at the retailer named, checked 18 October 2026. Prices change, so the retailer's page is the final word. We can't show Amazon prices here; the Amazon button shows today's price. Paid links: we may earn a commission. The highlighted pick is the one we'd buy for most people.

How we picked: We compared these 5 picks on and price, using maker specs, Australian retailer prices and owner reports. We haven't tested them hands-on yet, and maker claims are labelled as theirs. Commission never changes the order. Full method.

Every guide on this site is written for Australian lawns and Australian shops. Prices are what we found at Bunnings, Robot Mowers Australia, Mower Supastore and the makers’ own Australian stores (Mammotion, Segway Navimow, Ecovacs and Husqvarna) on the date above, in Australian dollars. For models sold on Amazon Australia, check the current price on Amazon. We compare maker specifications, retailer listings and warranty terms; we have not mowed with these machines ourselves.

How to choose

Start with the lawn, not the mower. Four questions sort out almost every buyer.

  • Do you want to mow at all? If not, you want a robot. It cuts a little every few days and mulches the clippings back into the lawn. If you do not mind mowing once a week, a battery push mower costs a fraction of a robot. See the battery lawn mower guide.
  • How big is the lawn? Measure the grass, not the block, and buy a robot rated above the total. Robots run from 200 m² (Bosch VisiMow) to 5,000 m² (Navimow X450 AWD). See the main robot mower guide.
  • How steep is it? Makers quote slope in percent, and 45% is only about 24 degrees. Two-wheel-drive robots top out around 45%; steeper lawns need all-wheel drive. See the robot mower for slopes guide.
  • Will you lay a wire? Boundary-wire robots are cheaper; wire-free robots use satellites, cameras or LiDAR instead. Under big trees, LiDAR is the safer choice. See the wire-free robot mower guide.

What each one costs

Type Price range we found What you also pay for Our pick
Battery push mower $228 (Ozito 41 cm kit) to $844.98 (Toro 43 cm 60V) Spare batteries, a new blade now and then Ryobi 36V HP 46cm kit, $499
Boundary-wire robot $899 (Gardena Minimo 250) to $1,434 (Husqvarna 405X, campaign price) Blades; moving the wire when beds change Husqvarna Automower 405X
Wire-free robot $1,199 (Anthbot Genie 600E) to $5,999 (Navimow X450 AWD) Blades; 4G data on some models after a free period Segway Navimow i206 AWD, $2,398

Under $1,500, the budget robot mower guide compares the eight robots worth a look. If you have narrowed it to the two biggest wire-free brands, the Mammotion vs Segway Navimow comparison matches them size for size.

Robot or push mower: the honest answer

A robot is worth it when the lawn is regular in shape, mostly flat or within its slope rating, and big enough that mowing eats into your weekend. It is a poorer fit for a tiny courtyard, a lawn broken into many small patches joined by narrow paths, or a steep bank, where you would pay a premium for a robot that still needs help. In those cases a light battery mower, such as the 8.1 kg Bosch EasyMower or the $228 Ozito kit, is the better tool.

The robot’s real advantage is frequency. Cutting a little every few days means it never removes much at once, and the fine clippings fall back into the lawn as mulch. Gardena describes its Minimo’s fine cuttings as acting as mulch and a natural fertiliser. That is why most robots carry no catcher.

Safety and electrical marks

Robots and push mowers both have blades. Robot makers list features such as lift sensors that stop the blades (Gardena), lift alarms (Dreame) and animal detection (eufy); push mowers rely on safety switches and keys. None replaces keeping children and pets off the lawn while a mower runs, and setting no-go zones around play areas, pools and drops. Robot charging docks and battery chargers run on mains power, so they should carry the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM); our research method explains what else we check.

The one trap

Buying a robot to fix a lawn it cannot handle. A robot rated below your lawn’s area or slope will run all day, fall behind in a growth spurt and get stuck on the steep corner, and you will end up mowing anyway. Measure the area and the steepest patch first, then buy one size up. If no robot in your budget clears both, buy a good battery mower now and revisit robots later.

Segway Navimow i206 AWD

$2,398 at bunnings.com.au · checked 18 Oct 2026

No boundary wire, no antenna, AWD for 45% (24°) slopes, $2,398 at Bunnings.

  • Lawn area: 600 m² recommended
  • Max slope: 45% (24°)
  • Drive: AWD, three motors
  • Navigation: Network RTK + camera (VisionFence)
  • RTK base or service: No antenna to install; network RTK over built-in 4G
  • Cutting width: 18 cm
  • Cutting height: 50–90 mm (Bunnings, Amazon); 20–60 mm on Navimow's AU page
  • IP rating: IP66 (Navimow AU)

  • Noise: 59 dB(A)

  • Sold at Bunnings, so returns and warranty claims can start at a store
  • Amazon's listing says the first year of 4G service is included

Cons

  • Network RTK needs a data connection; the built-in 4G is free for the first year (Amazon listing), so ask what it costs after that

  • Retailers disagree on the cutting height range (50–90 mm at Bunnings and Amazon, 20–60 mm on Navimow's AU page); confirm before buying if you cut low

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy a robot mower or a battery mower?

Buy a robot if you never want to mow again and your lawn suits one (not too steep, not too broken up). Buy a battery mower if you do not mind pushing a mower once a week: it costs $228 to $762 against $899 and up for a robot.

What size robot mower do I need?

Measure the lawn itself, add the front and back, and buy a robot rated comfortably above the total. A typical suburban lawn of 300 to 500 m² suits a robot rated for 600 m².

When is the best time to buy a mower in Australia?

Lawns grow fastest from spring into summer, so September to December is the main buying season. Black Friday at the end of November is the next big sale period; several prices in our guides were already sale prices on 18 October.

Where can I buy robot and battery mowers in Australia?

Bunnings stocks most brands, including Navimow, Mammotion, Ecovacs, Gardena, Ryobi, Ozito and Makita. Robot Mowers Australia, Husqvarna, Mammotion and Ecovacs sell online, and Amazon Australia lists Mammotion, Navimow, Ecovacs, Husqvarna, eufy, Dreame, Bosch, Greenworks and Stanley.
